The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday objected to a reported meeting of foreign diplomats based in Kathmandu with leaders of the agitating Federal Alliance. Spokesperson at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement today, “Such engagements in essentially internal matters of Nepal without the knowledge of the Government are regrettable.”The agitating Alliance on Thursday had held a meeting with representatives of diplomatic missions based in the Capital to clarify that their new programmes of protest would be peaceful, non-violent and democratic. A day after the meeting, the MoFA spokesperson commented that “the Government of Nepal was not informed of the event.” “He further stated that these kinds of incidents are not compatible with the letter and spirit of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, established diplomatic practices and code of conduct,” the MoFA statement read.“He expressed hope that all diplomatic missions and their members carry out their functions in a manner that are consistent with their responsibilities.
