Thousand of litres of illicit liquor have been seized and destroyed in the Nepali capital in the past three years, police records show. However, despite attempts by police to discourage production and consumption of hooch, the business of home-made liquor has been flourishing in the Kathmandu Valley, Xinhua reported citing local media. The context of alcohol use is diverse and differs widely by gender. Access to the alcohol market is more available to men than women. While men drink both inside and outside the home, women's drinking is mostly confined to the house. But it is the women who are mostly th e producers of the homemade alcohol. Police said 100,000 liters of liquor have been seized and destroyed in the past three years. At least 85 people have been arrested in the last three years for these offenses.
