Maiti Nepal was born out of a crusade to protect Nepali girls and women from crimes like domestic violence, trafficking for flesh trade, child prostitution, child labor and various forms of abuse, exploitation and torture. In 1993, a group of socially committed professionals like teachers, journalists and social workers together formed Maiti Nepal to fight against the social evils inflicted upon our female populace. Its prominent focus has always been centered on preventing trafficking for forced prostitution, rescuing victims of the flesh trade and rehabilitating them. This social organization also actively works to provide justice for the victimized girls and women through criminal investigation and waging legal battles against the criminals. Since its inception, it has drastically highlighted trafficking issue with its stroMaiti denotes a girl’s real family, where she was born into. The word has a sentimental value especially for a married Nepali woman. She then solely belongs to her husband and his family forever. However, Maiti Nepal is a home to all women and girls regardless of being married or not. A safe heaven for those, whose rights are exploited, violated and neglected by society. It was a crusade to find such victims a home for their protection from social evils that gave birth to this organization in April advocacy from the local to national and international levels.
