3 Maoist groups to unify under 499-member CC

The scattered and divided Maoist parties and factions are all set to declare their unification with the UCPN (Maoist) holding a joint convention on May 19 in Kathmandu. A majority of the central committee of the Communist Party of Nepal Revolutionary Maoist (CPNRM) on Saturday decided to unite with the UCPN (Maoist) along with Revolutionary Communist Party of Nepal led by Mani Thapa and leaders from some other Maoist factions. Though CPNRM Chairman Mohan Baidya and his supporters denied the unification process, 130 members of the 199-member central committee of his party led by General Secretary Ram Bahadur Thapa decided to unite with the UCPN (Maoist). "We have finalized the political agendas for unification. May 19 would be the day of unification," said Pampha Bhusal, CPNRM spokesperson.According to Bhusal, UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and CPNRM General Secretary Thapa are assigned to finalize the organizational structures as well as positions of the leaders in the unified party.
