Philippines elects transgender woman to Congress

The Philippines have made history by electing their first ever transgender politician to the House of Representatives. CNN's Lynda Kinkade has the story.Largely Catholic Philippines, where divorce, abortion and same-sex marriage are illegal, just elected its first transgender MP in history.Geraldine Roman, is a Filipina transgender woman, and she has made history as the first out trans politician to be elected to federal government in the Philippines. Roman won a congressional seat representing the province of Bataan, which is north of the country’s capital city Manila. Roman commented after her victory, “The politics of bigotry, hatred and discrimination did not triumph. What triumphed was the politics of love, acceptance and respect,”
